US SAILING's One-Design Sailing Symposium in Atlanta, November 2008
The 2008 One-Design Sailing Symposium (ODSS) is scheduled for November 15-16 in Atlanta . (The exact location to be determined.) There was much discussion in the One Design Champ. Committee Meeting of SAYRA hosting a "mini" one design symposium. Viola! Now we have it. The US Sailing link to the Symposium is http://www.ussailing.org/odcc/One-DesignSymposiums.asp. Please check the site often as it will be updated as more information is available.
The format of the ODC is very much like the format used in the current SAYRA Youth Class Championship.
Each class that participates in the ODC will select which regattas will be used in their championship series. The number of events in the series will be up to the class but should not be less than three and should include several different venues within SAYRA hosted by SAYRA clubs or associate club or fleets. Classes can use their existing championship series where the events are held at SAYRA member clubs. Classes may dictate use of a throw-out. If a member of a class sails in a major class event on the same day as a SARYA event is being held, they should be given credit for the series event.
The winners of each class must be an individual or family member of SAYRA.
For participating classes, a Class Representative (CR) is identified and will be the interface to the ODC Chairman. The CR will identify what races are on that class championship series and will be responsible for getting copies of the finial results to the ODC Chair and a copy is to be sent to the SAYRA Web Site. The overall winners for each class will be determine by the CR. Each CR will need to provide to the ODC Chair the results no later than the first of December to allow the purchase of the trophies that will be presented at the next annual SAYRA membership meeting. This is an evolving procedure and issues may arise that will need to be resolved. The ODC Chairman will work with each CR to find solutions to identified issues.
The goal is to recognize the top sailors in the fleets that sail in the SAYRA area and to encourage new classes and additional members to existing class. Recommendations for enhancements and/or changes to this process can be directed to the ODC Chairman for further study and consideration by the SAYRA Executive Board2008 One Design Championship Chairman - Sarah Ashton
