MC Scow MC Scows continue to be a popular one design in our area and throughout our sailing world. The reason is that they MC Scow offers a fun and stable platform to race, is simple to maintain and rig, and the people who sail them are both competitive and fun to be with. I began sailing the boat at the Easter Regatta in 1998 in a very old boat. In my second race, my forestay shackle came undone and the mast fell down during the last minute before the start. I was able to take the sail off, put the mast back up, and race in the next race. It was still a fun day and a fun regatta. When I got into the boat it was primarily a class of the Midwest. The Charleston fleet was the biggest Southeast fleet. Now there are 30+ boats at Eustis Florida, Beaufort SC has a vibrant fleet, Atlanta has been re-born, Augusta is very solid, Lake Murray is active and growing, Catawba is steady and active, Chattanooga’s Privateer is very active, and so forth. So much activity has taken place in the Southeast that we have hosted many national level regattas. The Midwinter Championship at Eustis consistently has 75+ boats in March every year, the Nationals has been in Augusta, Charlotte, and Atlanta since 2001. Each of those Nationals hosted 75+ boats. The Masters National Championship was in Augusta in 2005 and the Masters Nationals will be at Beaufort, SC in October of 2011. Go to MCSCOW.ORG or Melges.com for information about our class and the fun we are having. If you want to sail one, email me and I will arrange a demonstration sailing experience for you. We are proud to be one of the top rated one design classes in the USA. See you on the water, Jeff Annis, Augusta Sailing Club
