Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is
the SAYRA Junior Series?
A: The SAYRA Jr. Series is a selected group of Regattas held at SAYRA clubs in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia. This series typically runs from March through November. This series encourages Jr. sailors to sail a variety of venues and weather conditions to improve their skills.
Q. How do I
know which Regattas count for the SAYRA Jr. Series?
A: These regattas are listed in the SAYRA Jr. Series NOR. In addition, the SAYRA Jr. Webpage provides details for each fleet. Even though most fleets can participate in all SAYRA regattas, the webpage specifies which Regattas count for specific fleets. For example: The Jolly Jordan is an Optimist only regatta. Another example is Hobcaw: Jr. Sailors can participate in Opti, Sunfish, Laser, and 420 fleets but only Opti, and 420 scores are also reported to the SAYRA Jr. Series.
Q. What is
an NOR?
A. NOR stands
for Notice of Race. It is the most
important document for parents, Jr. sailors, and regatta officials. The NOR is updated annually and
provides detailed information about the series. Please make sure you download it from the SAYRA Jr. Webpage.
Q. Do parents need to report their Jr. SailorÕs scores?
A. No. The Regatta Officials are responsible for reporting the scores. Parents and Jr. Sailors can check the Jr. SAYRA page for results.
Q. Where do
I find the SAYRA Jr. Series scores?
A. These results are located on the Jr. page of the SAYRA website. Our goal is to have scores posted within three weeks after each regatta.
Q. If my
childÕs birthday is in the middle of the SAYRA Jr. series, how do I know what
fleet they should compete in?
A. Birthday rules vary by fleet. See the Jr. Series NOR on the SAYRA Jr. Series Webpage for specific information for your childÕs fleet. Be sure to look at the qualification requirements, it is always OK to sail ÒupÓ in a fleet. Remember, whatever fleet you register in for a specific regatta is how that score is reported to the SAYRA Jr. Series. If you have any questions, please contact the Jr. Co-Chairs.
